TeamHCSO Delivers Thanksgiving Meals for Families Affected by Hurricane Ian in Lee County

TeamHCSO delivered food donations to victims of Hurricane Ian in Lee County, ensuring families are able to have a Thanksgiving dinner.

On Monday, November 21, 2022, a truck of food donated by Hillsborough County residents was delivered to the Cape Christian Church in Cape Coral. Leading up to the week of the Thanksgiving Holiday, a food drive dubbed Operation Hope, was held at all Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office districts, the SOC, and Hillsborough County Fire Rescue stations. More than 350 meals were prepared with sides, bread, and dessert. To help purchase turkeys, hams, or additional items, families were presented with $15 gift cards to Walmart. Hogans Hangout in Clearwater stepped up in a huge way by donating 320 turkeys and 150 hams.

Volunteers with Cape Christian helped organize and distribute food to dozens of cars, some who waited more than 2 hours to get help.

"Thanks to the generous donations by Hillsborough County residents, and many of our sworn and civilian staff, we were able to provide some comfort for families who have lost so much, if not everything," said Sheriff Chad Chronister. "I can't think of anything that exemplifies the Thanksgiving Holiday more than being able to support our neighbors down south after such a devastating storm."

This effort was coordinated with the office of the governor, and help on site provided by other local, city, and Lee County officials.
