Patrol Services

The Department of Patrol Services is under the command of Colonel Joseph Maurer. The department is divided into five geographic districts and includes the Communications Bureau.

Colonel Joseph Maurer began his career with the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office in 2007. Colonel Maurer has served in many areas of the Sheriff’s Office to include Patrol, Street Crimes, Criminal Investigations Division and Professional Standards Section. Colonel Maurer has served in supervisory roles to include Field Training Supervisor, Professional Standards Section, District Patrol Shift Commander and the Tampa Bay Regional Intelligence Center. Colonel Maurer currently serves as the Commander in the Special Investigations Division.

Colonel Maurer is a combat veteran of the United States Army where he served as a Non-Commissioned Officer and Officer in the Infantry and Intelligence Branches. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice Administration from the University of Phoenix and a Master of Business Administration Degree with a concentration in Economic Crime and Fraud Management from Utica College. Currently, Colonel Maurer is a Doctoral Candidate of Public Administration at California Baptist University.

Colonel Maurer is proud of his Hispanic heritage and is fluent in the Spanish language. Colonel Maurer and his wife Indira have five children.
