Reserve Deputy Program

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office Reserve Deputy Program is built on the concept of utilizing trained volunteer law enforcement professionals to supplement agency operations and assist in serving the citizens of Hillsborough County. Reserve Deputies support the Sheriff’s Office during special events, emergencies, patrol operations, disaster response, community events, and various public safety initiatives throughout the county.

The Reserve Deputy Program provides an opportunity for qualified individuals to continue serving their community in a law enforcement capacity while working alongside full-time deputies and agency personnel. Reserve Deputies receive specialized training and are held to the same professional standards, policies, and expectations as full-time sworn members of the Sheriff’s Office.

Reserve Deputies assist in a variety of operational assignments, including:

  • Patrol operations
  • Special events
  • DUI operations
  • Traffic and crowd control
  • Disaster and emergency response
  • Community-oriented policing initiatives
  • Parade and festival details
  • Supplemental law enforcement operations

Reserve Deputies complete agency-approved training, annual in-service requirements, firearms qualifications, and field training designed to prepare them for operational assignments within the Sheriff’s Office. Reserve Deputies also work closely with experienced field training deputies and supervisors to ensure professionalism, safety, and operational readiness.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office Reserve Deputy Program consists of multiple reserve classifications, including Reserve 1 and Reserve 2 Deputies, each serving distinct operational roles within the agency.

To become a Reserve Deputy, applicants must meet Sheriff’s Office hiring standards and applicable State of Florida Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission requirements. Applicants undergo a screening and selection process which may include background investigations, interviews, and training requirements.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office continues to seek motivated individuals who are committed to serving their community and supporting public safety operations throughout Hillsborough County.
