The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office has arrested a Spoto High School student after he called in a bomb threat against the school.
On August 19, 2026, School Resource Deputies were notified of a bomb threat made by phone to Spoto High School.
The school's receptionist received the call, and the caller asked, "Is this Spoto?" before claiming he had planted a bomb on the first floor of the 200 building. The caller then threatened that everyone was going to die before hanging up.
Deputies immediately conducted a thorough search of the school. No explosives or other threats were located.
During the investigation, detectives traced the phone number used to make the threat to the parent of Spoto High School 12th-grade student Alexander Parris, 17.
On August 20, 2026, detectives made contact with Parris and his mother at the school. Detectives confirmed the phone belonged to the Parris family and that Alexander Parris was the confirmed user of the device.
A review of the phone's call history showed Spoto High School.
Parris was arrested and charged with:
- False Report of a Bomb, Explosive or Weapon of Mass Destruction
- Unlawful Use of a Two-Way Communication Device
- Disrupting a School Campus or Function
"A bomb threat is not a joke, a prank or something we will ever take lightly," said Sheriff Chad Chronister. "One call can create fear and disrupt an entire school. If you make a threat against one of our schools, we will find you, arrest you and hold you accountable."
This is an active investigation. Any updates will come from the Public Affairs Office.
