Homicide Investigation Near Rideout Road in Tampa

UPDATE: 3 p.m.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office is conducting a homicide investigation on the 7800 block of Rideout Road in Tampa that left one person dead.

On Thursday, November 16, 2023, at 10:40 a.m., a shooting occurred in front of the Get-N-Go. When deputies arrived, they located three people with what appeared to be gunshot wounds. Hillsborough County Fire Rescue paramedics pronounced one man deceased; two others were taken to TGH and are currently in surgery.

A short time later, an individual approached one of our deputies and stated he was involved in the shooting. Detectives are currently interviewing that person of interest.

Detectives and Crime Scene Investigators are piecing together the scene and conducting interviews.

"This violent scene unfolded within feet of an elementary and middle school," said Sheriff Chad Chronister. "This disregard for human safety, especially our children, is infuriating. Our detectives and deputies will get to the bottom of this crime.”

Dowdell Middle School and Claire Mel Elementary are no longer on lock-in, and no students were involved in this event.

This investigation is ongoing; any updates will come from the Public Affairs Office.
