The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office has arrested a man who threatened to kill deputies and lunged at them with a knife.
On September 24, 2026, at 10:18 a.m., deputies responded to a home on the 11000 block of Clay Pit Road regarding an adult male threatening to kill family members or himself.
When deputies arrived, they found Jarrett Brooks, 41, in his bedroom. Brooks refused to cooperate and then threatened to kill the deputies.
Brooks then, unprovoked, kicked a deputy in the chest and attempted to kick a Taser out of another deputy's hands.
He then grabbed a knife from next to his bed and lunged at the deputies with the knife pointed toward them. Deputies deployed their Tasers and eventually Brooks dropped the knife after originally refusing to comply.
Brooks was taken into custody and charged with:
- Attempted Murder of a Law Enforcement Officer
- Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer (x2)
- Aggravated Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer with a Deadly Weapon
- Resisting an Officer with Violence
- Resisting an Officer without Violence
"This is an extremely violent subject with a very violent past, and I couldn’t be more proud how these deputies handled this situation that could have easily turned deadly," said Sheriff Chad Chronister.
He was also placed under Baker Act provisions, and he has been transported to the Orient Road Jail.
Brooks has a criminal history dating back to 2013, which includes Second-Degree Murder and DUI charges.
The Public Affairs Office will release Jarrett Brooks' booking photo when it becomes available.
This remains an active investigation. Any updates will be released by the Public Affairs Office.
