A Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office patrol vehicle was struck by an impaired driver early Friday morning.
Just after 1 a.m., on August 4, 2023, an HCSO marked Chevrolet Tahoe was heading to a call for service regarding an individual experiencing the effects of an unknown substance.
The deputy patrol vehicle was heading Southbound on South Valrico Road when a Nissan Murano, driven by Brittany Moore, 34, ran a steady red light going Eastbound on East Lumsden Road, and the two vehicles collided.
The deputy was transported to Brandon Regional Hospital and sustained non-life-threatening upper-body injuries.
Moore showed signs of impairment and was arrested for DUI at the scene. She provided a breath sample at Central Breath Testing three and a half hours after the crash and blew a .066 and .068 BAC. Moore is facing charges of Driving Under the Influence with Personal Damage and Personal Injury.
"Driving impaired isn't just a risk you take; it's a danger you pose to yourself, your passengers, and everyone else sharing the road. When you're behind the wheel under the influence, you're not only gambling with your life, but also with the lives of innocent people," said Sheriff Chad Chronister. "This situation could have ended so much differently and shows how driving under the influence is a reckless choice that can shatter families, cause irreparable harm, and leave a trail of devastation."
