TeamHCSO joins classic car ride for cancer

To raise awareness and funds for pediatric cancer, Sheriff Chad Chronister and members of the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office escorted youth cancer survivors and their parents from St Petersburg to Downtown Tampa as part of the "Walk, Run and Roll" event hosted by the National Pediatric Cancer Foundation.

On Saturday morning, May 1, both a charity walk and car event began along Bayshore Drive, adjacent to Vinoy Park in St. Petersburg. As families and teams laced up their shoes to walk, a total of 43 classic cars joined a road rally into Hillsborough County with members of HCSO serving as escorts. The rally ended at Sparkman Wharf in downtown Tampa, where a charity car show began.

Money raised from the walk and car event will go towards the National Pediatric Cancer Foundation's mission of reducing the side effects of current treatments, improving survival rates, and ultimately eliminating childhood cancer.

"Helping others is our most important responsibility as law enforcement officers, and as today's event shows, there are many ways we work to protect and serve our community," said Sheriff Chad Chronister. "Putting a smile on children's faces and helping raise money and awareness for youth who are fighting for their lives brings us an incredible amount of joy."
