Matthew Carter, Captain

Captain Carter graduated from the University of South Florida in 2004. He began his career at the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, shortly thereafter, in 2005, as a patrol deputy in District III. He has held assignments as an Accident Investigator and Traffic Homicide Detective.

He was promoted to a supervisory position in 2018, and he has held roles in Districts I and III since then. Those supervisory assignments included Patrol, the General Offense Section, and the District III Investigations Unit.  He graduated from the Florida Leadership Academy in 2021.

Captain Carter was born and raised in Tampa and is a proud Floridian. He and his wife, Michelle, are privileged to have three children.
