Hillsborough County schools are served and protected by School Resource Deputies, sworn members of the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, who work on campus throughout the school year.

These deputies complete specialized training beyond the standard academy, covering topics like de-escalation, and emergency response in a school setting. Day to day, you'll see them greeting students at drop-off, walking the halls, and getting to know kids and staff.

They're a resource for students who need help, a partner to teachers and administrators. Every school resource deputy is not only  just a presence, but a part of the school community.

SRD BIOS: Central

Armwood High School Deputy Edwards has been a deputy for six years. He says being a school resource deputy gives him a chance to make a positive impact on students. It's about more than enforcing the law. It's about building trust, keeping students safe, mentoring them, and being someone they know they can come to when they need help.

Brandon High School Deputy Dale has been with HCSO for four and a half years and an SRD for one year. He enjoys being an SRD because it gives them the opportunity to make a difference in a student's life and help mentor them for the future.

Burnett Middle School Deputy Aguero has been a deputy with HCSO for 12 years. What he likes most about school resource work is the spontaneous nature of middle schoolers. Every day is different, and there is never a dull moment.

Sumner High

Collins PK-8 Deputy Glenn has been with HCSO for six years and an SRD for two years. What he likes about being an SRD is connecting with the children and showing them a positive side of law enforcement.

Dowdell Middle School Deputy Smantha Spedale has been with HCSO for four years and an SRD for one year. She is currently assigned to Dowdell Middle School, after serving briefly as a floater. She enjoys building relationships with the kids and showing them a different side of law enforcement.

Jennings Middle School Master Deputy Ayala has been with the agency for over 16 years, including the past 10 as an SRD, and is currently assigned to Jennings Middle School. His passion is seeing the positive growth in students as they transition into high school.

King High School Deputy Garibaldi is proud to serve as a School Resource Deputy. His passion has always been working with young people, whether in the classroom, on campus, or on the athletic field. As a former collegiate football player and youth sports coach, he has learned that building trust, teaching discipline, and leading by example can have a lasting impact on a child's life. He enjoys being an SRD because it allows him to do more than provide safety. He gets to mentor students, build meaningful relationships, and be a positive role model they can depend on.

Mann Middle School Deputy Davis has been a deputy for four years and an SRD for one year. He says there are many benefits to being an SRD. Deputies get to work closely with children and teens and be a positive influence on them, especially the ones facing difficult home lives or situations where trust has been hard to come by. School resource work is a rare opportunity to be the adult a student can rely on, to take them seriously, and to help steer them toward a better path.

Strawberry Crest High School Master Deputy Colon has been with HCSO for 22 years and an SRD for 17 of those years. He is currently assigned to Strawberry Crest High School, where he has served for the past six years. What he enjoys most about being an SRD is the daily positive interactions and the community connection with the students.

Tampa Bay Tech Master Deputy Lucius has 16 years of service with the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, including the past seven as a School Resource Deputy. He is currently assigned to Tampa Bay Tech and previously served at King High School. What he values most about being an SRD is the opportunity to guide and support the next generation, building positive relationships and helping students succeed both in and out of the classroom.

Turner Bartels K-8 Master Deputy Serrano has been a deputy with HCSO for 20 years, 14 of them as an SRD. He is currently assigned to Turner Bartels K-8 and previously served at Pierce Middle School. He likes being an SRD because of the positive impact he can have on the youth.

Wharton High School Deputy Alloway has served the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office in a variety of roles, including school resource. He also brings 10 years of infantry military experience. He likes being an SRD because it lets him build real relationships with students, support staff, and families while helping create a safe and positive school environment. It's rewarding to be in a position where he can make a difference both in prevention and in the day to day lives of students.

Barrington Middle School Deputy McAnally has been with the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office for eight years and has proudly served as a School Resource Deputy for the past six. What he enjoys most about being a SRD is working in a school and having meaningful daily interactions, serving as a mentor, and making a positive impact on the school community.

Bloomingdale High School Master Deputy Craig has been with HCSO for 19 years and has spent the last nine as a School Resource Deputy. His favorite part of being an SRD is building genuine connections on campus and sharing life lessons that help students grow. Beyond that, he loves making great memories at Bloomingdale, keeping an ear out for the school's fantastic drumline, and catching a bite from its incredible culinary program.

Deputy Malango has been with HCSO for over 10 years and has served as a School Resource Deputy for the past seven months.  What he likes about being an SRD is the feeling that he is making a difference in kids' lives and having a positive impact on his community.

Burns Middle School Deputy Diaz has been with teamHCSO for three years, serving as a School Resource Deputy for the past year. He is currently assigned to Burns Middle School, where he is dedicated to providing guidance and mentorship to the students he interacts with daily.

Durant High School Master Deputy Zarbo has been with the HCSO for 15 years, spending the last 10 as a School Resource Deputy. What he enjoys most about being an SRD is the opportunity to mentor students, build lasting relationships, and make a positive impact both in and out of the classroom. He also appreciates the chance to change the narrative about law enforcement by showing students that deputies are there to support, guide, and protect them.

Marshall Middle School Deputy Williams has been with the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office for five years and recently transitioned into his role as a School Resource Deputy. He is currently assigned to Marshall Middle School, where he is grateful for the opportunity to make a positive impact on students' lives every single day.

Mulrennan Middle School Deputy Schmidt has proudly served with the HCSO for nine years. For the past four years, he has worked as a School Resource Deputy. He is passionate about building positive relationships with students and creating a safe, supportive environment on campus. He enjoys interacting with students every day, serving as a positive role model, and mentoring young people as they navigate their middle school years.

Newsome High School Deputy Gray first joined the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office in 1998. For the past six years, he has served as a School Resource Deputy. What he loves most about this role is being part of his students' growth throughout their high school journeys, watching them mature and develop from freshman year all the way to graduation.

Plant City High School Master Deputy King has been with HCSO for over 22 years, and this will be his 12th year as an SRD. He enjoys being able to show students a different side of law enforcement and building positive relationships with students and their families.

Randall Middle School Master Deputy Ospina has been with HCSO for 16 years and has spent the last six as a School Resource Deputy. After working as a floater for her first two years, she has spent the last four happily assigned to Randall Middle School. As an SRD, she loves building positive relationships with students to support and guide them as they prepare for the future.

Tomlin Middle School Deputy Gibson has been with the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office for 22 years, serving as a School Resource Deputy for the past four. After many years in law enforcement, he has learned that some of the greatest impacts are not always measured by arrests or enforcement actions, but by the conversations, guidance, and support deputies provide. Knowing that a student feels comfortable coming to him for help, advice, or simply someone to listen is one of the most rewarding parts of the job.

Turkey Creek Middle School Master Deputy Dabbs has been with HCSO for 21 years and has spent the last 12 as a School Resource Deputy. Turkey Creek Middle School has been his home campus as an SRD, and he couldn't be happier to be there. His absolute favorite part of the job is mentoring students and helping them find their way as they prepare for the future.

Beth Shields Middle School Deputy Thomas has proudly served with HCSO for 12 years, including the past three as a School Resource Deputy. He is dedicated to fostering a safe and positive learning environment. He enjoys the opportunity to interact with students daily, building positive relationships and serving as a trusted mentor. 

Dorothy C. York Innovation Academy Master Deputy Stewart has dedicated 26 years serving at the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office and the past 22 in the School Resource Section. He is committed to building positive relationships with students and helping create a safe learning environment. What he enjoys most about being an SRD is watching young people grow into the best version of themselves and encouraging them every step of the way.

East Bay High School Deputy Nguyen has proudly served with HCSO for 15 years and has been a School Resource Deputy for the past year and a half. Throughout his time as an SRD, he has been assigned to East Bay High School, where he is committed to building positive relationships with students and staff. He believes today's students will become tomorrow's leaders, healthcare providers, and protectors, and he takes pride in supporting their growth both inside and outside the classroom.

Eisenhower Middle School Deputy Pohlabel has proudly served with the teamHCSO for three and a half years and has been a member of the School Resource Section for the past year. He is currently assigned to Eisenhower Middle School, home of the Generals, where he is dedicated to supporting students and fostering a safe, positive learning environment. For him there is no greater reward than protecting students, supporting their success, and witnessing their growth and achievements.

Giunta Middle School Deputy Wilson has proudly served with the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office for nearly six years and has spent the past two and a half years as a School Resource Deputy. He is dedicated to building positive relationships and fostering a safe and supportive school environment. He enjoys being a trusted resource for his students and making a lasting impact through mentorship, support, and engagement.

Lennard High School Deputy Andrews has proudly served with the HCSO for 10 years and recently completed his fifth year as a School Resource Deputy. He enjoys encouraging students as they navigate important milestones and says he considers it a privilege to watch them grow, overcome challenges, and achieve their goals, whether through academics, athletics, higher education, careers, or other paths. Morgan High School Deputy Wallace has proudly served #teamHCSO for nearly 10 years, including almost a year as a School Resource Deputy, where he is committed to providing a safe and secure learning environment for students and staff. He enjoys working as an SRD because it gives him the opportunity to make a positive difference while helping keep students, staff, and the community safe.

Progress Village Middle Magnet School Master Deputy Cruz has served as a School Resource Deputy for 16 years and is currently assigned to Progress Village Middle Magnet School. Master Deputy Cruz values being part of a school family and community, where he has the opportunity to positively influence both students and staff. He enjoys contributing to school safety, mentoring students, serving as a law enforcement liaison, and helping protect the school community.

Richard C. Spoto High School Deputy Joyner has proudly been with the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office for 12 years and has been a School Resource Deputy for the past four years. As an SRD, he values the opportunity to build trust between young people and law enforcement. He enjoys watching students grow and mature throughout their high school years and takes pride in being someone they can turn to without fear of judgment. His goal is to foster positive relationships that help students feel heard, supported, and empowered to succeed.

Riverview High School Deputy Hicks has proudly served with the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office for 11 years and has been a School Resource Deputy for the past four years. He enjoys building meaningful relationships with students, mentoring them through important life lessons, and watching them grow and mature into confident young adults. He takes pride in making a positive impact both inside and outside the classroom through trust, guidance, and everyday interactions.

Rodgers Middle Magnet School Master Deputy Kubec has been with the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office for 18 years, including 12 years as a School Resource Deputy. He enjoys building positive relationships with students and being a trusted presence on campus, and he finds the greatest reward in watching students grow from sixth through eighth grade, gaining confidence, maturing, and making positive choices. Being a small part of that journey is what makes serving as a School Resource Deputy so meaningful to him.

Sumner High School Deputy Bungarz has served with HCSO for nearly 12 years, including the past two and a half years as a School Resource Deputy. He is passionate about building positive relationships with students, mentoring young people, and serving as a trusted resource within the school community, and he finds helping students navigate challenges and making a positive impact on their lives to be the most rewarding part of his career.

Alonso High School Master Deputy Klammer has been with the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office for 17 years. He is currently in his 11th year as the School Resource Deputy at Alonso High School. His favorite part of being an SRD is watching students grow from freshmen into confident graduates and seeing them accomplish goals they once thought were out of reach.

Ben Hill Middle School Deputy Brizendine has 10 years of service with the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office and a year and a half as a School Resource Deputy. What he enjoys most about being an SRD is the opportunity to be a positive role model and help guide students toward becoming great citizens through mentorship, support, and everyday interactions.

Eisenhower Middle

Davidson Middle School Deputy Cadenas Jr. has proudly served with teamHCSO for 17 years, including the past three and a half as a School Resource Deputy. Deputy Cadenas says the most rewarding part of being an SRD is the chance to interact with students every day, build positive relationships, and mentor them as they grow and learn. One memorable day, an alligator wandered onto campus, and Deputy Cadenas safely wrangled it, keeping students out of harm's way and giving the school a story it won't soon forget.

Farnell Middle School Deputy De La Cruz has 11 years of service with the HCSO, including six and a half as a School Resource Deputy. What he enjoys most about being an SRD is watching students grow into confident, independent young adults while being a trusted mentor, whether that means offering guidance, listening with compassion, or brightening a student's day with a few Jolly Ranchers.

Gaither High School Deputy Haliburton has proudly served as a School Resource Deputy for the past six years. He is passionate about being a positive mentor and role model for students, and he enjoys educating young people, building meaningful connections, and helping them access resources that make a difference when they need support.

Leto High School Deputy Clark has proudly served with the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office for 11 years and recently began his assignment as a School Resource Deputy. He enjoys building positive relationships with students and believes every interaction is an opportunity to make a difference, with a goal of helping students develop a greater understanding and appreciation for law enforcement through trust, respect, and mentorship.

Martinez Middle School Master Deputy Barfield-Craig has 21 years of service as a deputy with the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, including time in Patrol, as a DUI Investigator, and as a Field Training Officer before becoming a School Resource Deputy. What he values most about being an SRD is the opportunity to protect, support, and make a lasting impact on his students through relationships, growth, and steady guidance.

Pierce Middle School Deputy Bello has been with the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office for five years and just under one as a School Resource Deputy. What he enjoys most about being an SRD is the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on young people, whether through mentoring, helping them overcome challenges, or encouraging them to reach their full potential.

Sergeant Paul R. Smith Middle School Deputy Ward has 12 and a half years of service with the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, including three and a half as a School Resource Deputy. What he enjoys most about being an SRD is interacting with students every day and serving as a mentor and positive influence.

Sickles High School Master Deputy Mellana has been with HCSO for 17 years including 11 as a School Resource Deputy. He is currently assigned to Sickles High School and has also served at Wharton High School, and he supported students at Miles and Lake Magdalene Elementary Schools through a community safety education grant. What he enjoys most about being an SRD is having the opportunity to be a positive, consistent presence in students' lives.

Steinbrenner High School Master Deputy Bennett has served with the teamHCSO since 2003, including 18 years as a School Resource Deputy. He enjoys building positive connections with students and helping guide them toward a successful future. His favorite part of being an SRD is working with kids and doing his part to keep them on the right path.

Walker Middle School Master Deputy Turner has 24 years of service with the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, including 14 as a School Resource Deputy. His favorite part of being an SRD is building relationships, whether with students, staff, or families, which he believes creates safer, stronger schools.

Webb Middle School Deputy Hernandez has four years of service with the HCSO, including one year as a School Resource Deputy. He enjoys building meaningful relationships with students and showing them that law enforcement officers are there to support their communities. As an SRD, he takes pride in being a positive male role model and encouraging students to make good choices, work hard, and believe in themselves.
