The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office has arrested a woman for killing a three-year-old.
The investigation began on April 25, 2026, when the female victim passed away after being transported to Brandon Regional Hospital with several inflicted injuries.
During the investigation, detectives learned that the injuries occurred while the victim was in the care of Grace Wingate, 29. The Medical Examiner later ruled her death a homicide.
Detectives obtained an arrest warrant on July 16, 2026, and arrested Wingate for the following charges:
- Child Neglect (With Great Bodily Harm)
- Aggravated Child Abuse
- Murder in the First Degree While Engaged in Aggravated Child Abuse
"This is a heartbreaking and disturbing case. A child lost her life at the hands of the person entrusted to protect her," said Sheriff Chad Chronister. "We will not tolerate violence against anyone in our community, especially innocent children, and we will work relentlessly with the State Attorney's Office to ensure she faces the maximum consequences the law allows."
This is an active investigation. Any updates will come from the Public Affairs Office.
