Overview

Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair diversified electronic equipment.

Duties & Responsibilities

Note: Depending on assigned responsibilities, employees may perform some or all of the duties below.

  • Install, modify, calibrate, test, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair, at the component level, diversified electronic equipment and associated subassemblies utilized in operations (e.g. voice and data communications, air quality monitoring, water/wastewater plant and pumping station controlling, traffic signal control, television and video monitoring, Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) navigation aids, etc.) to ensure their good physical condition and operation.

  • Design, construct, assemble, and rearrange circuits and perform other modifications to operation and test equipment, exhibits, and other devices.

  • Collect, log, and record data and readings and prepare reports as needed.

  • Monitor the operation of measuring equipment and control to ensure compliance with regulatory agencies standards and specifications.

  • Order parts and supplies as required.

  • Drive vehicles to remote locations to deliver, pickup, install, and/or troubleshoot equipment problems.

  • Perform other related duties as required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Working knowledge of electronics technology.

  • Working knowledge of the function and operation of electronic controlling, measuring, recording, transmitting, testing, and diagnostic equipment.

  • Some knowledge of the laws and regulations governing operating standards and specifications of the area to which assigned.

  • Skill in the use of electronic testing, diagnostic, and repair tools and equipment.

  • Ability to detect, analyze, and repair malfunctions on electronic equipment.

  • Ability to read and understand electronic diagrams and schematics.

  • Ability to work effectively with others.

  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.

  • Ability to operate a standard motor vehicle safely.

Minimum Education & Experience

  • A high school diploma or possession of a GED certificate.

  • Two years of experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electronic equipment.

OR

  • A high school diploma or possession of a GED certificate.

  • Successful completion of a training program of at least one year in length in an electronics technology field from an accredited institution of higher education.

  • One year of experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electronic equipment.

OR

  • An associate's or higher degree from an accredited institution of higher education with a major in an electronics technology field.

  • One year of experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electronic equipment.

Required Pre-Employment Testing

  • Completion of pre-employment testing.

Additional Job Requirements

  • Attendance at the specified Sheriff's Office work location is required.

  • Depending on assignment, employees may be required to possess a valid Florida Driver License at time of employment. Driving history will be thoroughly reviewed and may be grounds for disqualification.

  • No visible tattoos on face, head, and neck. Tattoos determined to take away from the professional appearance of the Sheriff’s Office must be covered with an appropriate white, black, or neutral covering.

  • No illegal drug sale within lifetime.

  • No illegal drug use within the past 36 months. No marijuana use within the last 12 months.

  • No felony convictions within lifetime.

  • No misdemeanor convictions involving perjury, false statement, or domestic violence within lifetime.

  • No dishonorable discharge from any branch of the United States Armed Forces, the United States Coast Guard, National Guard, or Reserve Forces.

  • Successful completion of a background investigation including criminal, reference, employment, and neighborhood checks; polygraph; medical evaluation; and drug screening.
