Family Hit, Child Killed in Vehicle Versus Pedestrian Crash

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office is investigating a fatal vehicle crash involving a family of three at the intersection of Mohr Road and Sheldon Road in Tampa.

On November 4, 2025, at 7:38 a.m., deputies responded to a call in reference to a vehicle versus pedestrian crash. When they arrived, they found a woman and her two children suffering from injuries. Deputies began rendering aid and called HCFR for assistance. Shortly after, the 6-year-old female victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

It has been determined that the family was properly utilizing a pedestrian crosswalk to cross Sheldon Road from Mohr Road on their way to school.

The driver, Isain Ledesma, 77, was traveling eastbound on Mohr Road and made a right turn on Sheldon Road when he hit the family. Ledesma did have a green light.

The mother and her 10-year-old son were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Ledesma was also transported to the hospital.

Ledesma has been cited for a violation of the right of way with death.

"An ordinary walk to school turned into an unimaginable tragedy for a family who should have simply been starting their day together," said Sheriff Chad Chronister. "This is a heartbreaking reminder that every second behind the wheel carries responsibility, especially when children are walking to school. Slow down and stay alert, so no other family endures this kind of pain."

Any updates will come from the Public Affairs Office.
