The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office was awarded a traffic subgrant in the amount of $230,000 by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) for the Work Zone Education and Enforcement Operation Program.
The purpose of the program is to educate the community about work zone safety and to conduct high visibility operations in an effort to decrease crashes occurring in a work zone within Hillsborough County and the funding supports overtime for deputies as well as speed measurement devices. In a 2020 analysis of the top 26 most populous counties in Florida, Hillsborough County ranked number 5 by FDOT for total injuries and fatalities in a work zone between 2015 and 2019.
The contract was executed on November 19, 2021 and the program will run through September 30, 2022.
